How to find out who owns a company in Maryland
Maryland runs business registration through its tax assessment department, which means entity records sit alongside property records.
Short answer: Search SDAT’s Business Entity Search for the resident agent, principal office and filing history. Annual reports generally apply to Maryland entities; the business personal property return is required only when applicable, including for Maryland business property or a local trader’s licence.
SDAT, not the Secretary of State
SDAT handles both business registration and property assessment. That shared department does not itself establish a physical operating location; verify the principal office, relevant property records and filing dates separately.

The personal property return is the hidden signal
An applicable business personal property return can provide additional context about owned, leased or used property. Its presence or absence does not by itself establish whether the business is operating, dormant, or suitable for outreach.
What Maryland doesn’t give you
Articles of organization aren’t required to name members. If the record shows only a resident agent, try the trade name registration, or the Baltimore or county-level licensing records if the trade requires a licence.
