Privacy policy
How we handle information about our customers, and how we handle the public records that make up the product.
Last updated 23 July 2026
Formations Feed compiles business formation records published by United States state business registries and delivers them to subscribers. This policy covers two separate things: information about you, our customer, and information contained in the records we distribute. They’re governed differently and we treat them separately throughout.
1. Information about our customers
What we collect
- Account details you give us: name, business name, email address, and the states you subscribe to.
- Billing information. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
- Usage data: API requests, file downloads, login timestamps, and IP address.
- Correspondence you send us by email or through our contact form.
Why we use it
To deliver the service you’ve subscribed to, to bill you, to provide support, to secure the service against abuse, and to send service notices about your account. We use it to send marketing email only where you’ve opted in, and every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link.
Who we share it with
Only with the service providers we need to run the business — payment processing, email delivery, hosting and error monitoring — and only to the extent they need it to perform that function. We do not sell customer account information.
2. Information in the records we distribute
Where it comes from
The records in our feed are compiled from filings published by state business registries — Secretaries of State and their equivalents. These filings are public records made available by those agencies. Depending on the state, a filing may name a registered agent, an organizer, incorporator, officers, members or managers, and give business and mailing addresses.
What we add
Where we can match them with confidence, we append business email addresses and telephone numbers from other sources. These are not supplied by the state registries. Where we cannot match a contact, we leave the field blank rather than estimating one.
What we remove
We exclude entities formed through commercial registered agent services, because the only address on those records belongs to the agent rather than the business.
Your rights if you appear in a record
If your name or contact details appear in records we distribute, you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it from our systems. Email contact@formationsfeed.com and we will respond within 45 days.
Two limits are worth stating plainly. We cannot alter or remove the underlying public record — that sits with the state agency that published it, and you would need to contact them directly. And deleting your details from our systems does not retrieve copies already delivered to subscribers before your request.
Residents of California and other states with privacy statutes
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we hold, to request its deletion, to request correction, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. Several other states now provide comparable rights. Because we make personal information available to subscribers for consideration, that activity may constitute a “sale” as those statutes define the term. To exercise any of these rights, or to opt out, email contact@formationsfeed.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.
3. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies that are necessary for the site to function, including keeping you signed in. Where we use analytics to understand how the site is used, it is limited to aggregate reporting. You can block or delete cookies in your browser; parts of the signed-in experience will stop working if you do.
4. Retention
We keep customer account and billing records for as long as your account is active and afterwards for as long as we are required to for tax and accounting purposes. We keep formation records for as long as they remain useful to the service, subject to deletion requests as described above.
5. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, and we don’t claim otherwise. If a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and any regulator we’re required to notify.
6. International users
Our service covers United States business registries and is aimed at United States customers. Our systems are operated in the United States. If you access the service from elsewhere, your information will be processed in the United States.
7. Children
The service is for businesses. It is not directed to anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for material changes we will notify account holders by email.
9. Contact
Questions, requests and complaints all go to contact@formationsfeed.com, or through the contact page.
