How to find out who owns a company in Indiana
Indiana reports every two years rather than annually, which means a record can sit untouched for twenty-four months.
Short answer: Search the entity on INBiz, the state’s business portal. The articles name the registered agent and incorporator, and the business entity report — due every two years — names the governing persons.
One portal for everything
Indiana consolidated entity registration, tax accounts and payroll onto INBiz. That’s convenient for founders and useful for you: a company that completed the full INBiz flow has usually registered for withholding or sales tax as well, which is a stronger signal of intent to trade than a bare formation filing.

- Open the INBiz business search.
- Search by business name or ID.
- Open the record for registered agent, principal office and status.
- Check the business entity report for governing persons.
The two-year gap is the thing to watch
Most states force a yearly correction. Indiana asks every two years, so an address or a governing person can be two years out of date and still be the current public record. When you’re working Indiana, treat anything without a recent report as unverified.
It’s also the strongest argument for catching entities at formation here. A filing from last week is accurate; a filing from 2024 may not be.
