Alabama · Secretary of State

Every new Alabama company, every morning.

Alabama is one of the few states where formation documents pass through the county probate office before reaching the Secretary of State. We track both stages so nothing is missed.

What Alabama publishes

County first, then the state.

Alabama’s historic two-step filing — certificate of formation lodged with the county probate judge, then transmitted to the Secretary of State — means the county of formation is part of the record itself. That is a genuinely useful territory field, and it is one most aggregators drop.

On every Alabama record

  • Entity name and entity ID
  • Type: LLC, corporation, LP or LLP
  • Filing date and status
  • County of formation
  • Registered agent and registered office
  • Organizers and incorporators
  • Email and phone where matched

What we take out

Filings using a commercial registered agent list the agent’s Montgomery address rather than the business’s own.

Those entities never reach your file and are never billed.

Alabama questions

Before you start.

Where does the Alabama data come from?

The Alabama Secretary of State, Business Entities Division, which receives certificates of formation from the county probate offices. New filings are pulled every business day.

Why does county of formation matter?

Because it tells you where the founder actually stood when they filed. In a state where Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile are three separate economies, that is a better territory signal than a mailing address.
