How to find out who owns a company in Nevada
Nevada LLCs generally submit the initial list of managers or managing members with formation. Read the listed role separately from ownership.
Short answer: Search the entity on the Secretary of State’s business portal. Under NRS 86.263, an LLC’s initial manager or managing-member list is generally due when the articles are filed, subject to the statutory alternative date. Check subsequent annual lists for updates.
Nevada is more open than its reputation suggests
Nevada markets itself on privacy, and people assume ownership is hidden. It isn’t, at least not at the management layer. The initial list — and the annual list after it — names managers or managing members, and both are public record.
A list of managers or managing members identifies management roles. A manager can be another entity and need not be an owner; the list does not establish every beneficial owner.
How to search
- Open SilverFlume or the Secretary of State’s business entity search.
- Search by entity name or business identification number.
- Open the record and look for the officers or managers section.
- Check the most recent annual list, which supersedes the initial one.
The out-of-state problem
A large share of Nevada entities are formed by people who live and trade somewhere else, using a Las Vegas or Carson City agent address. The manager named may be genuine while the address is a mail suite, so the record tells you who but not where.
When that happens, search the manager’s name in the state where the business actually operates — a Nevada LLC doing business in California generally has to register there too, and California asks for more.
If you need this at scale
A registered agent receives legal documents for the company. Hiring a commercial agent does not establish that the company is a shell, lacks an operating address, or has no useful contacts. Check the principal or mailing address and named officials separately; an agent address alone does not locate the operating business.
