How to find out who owns an LLC or company in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania filing history can include organizers, registered offices and annual-report governors. These are distinct roles and location fields, rather than a complete ownership register.
Short answer: Search the Department of State record, certificate and latest annual report. Pennsylvania introduced annual reports in 2025; these identify at least one governor and principal officers, if any. For an LLC, a governor may be a member or manager. An organizer or office provider is not necessarily an owner.
Registered office, not registered agent
Pennsylvania permits a registered office address or a commercial registered office provider. Neither choice proves where the company operates. From 2025, most domestic and registered foreign entities file annual reports: corporations by June 30, LLCs by September 30, and other covered entities by December 31. Newly formed entities first report in the following year.
Where a commercial registered office provider is used, you’ll see the same address repeating across unrelated entities — that’s the tell.

The county field is the useful one
The registered-office county describes the legal office, which may belong to a commercial provider. It does not establish an operating territory. Use the principal office and other verified location evidence for territory planning.
When the organizer is a law firm
Pennsylvania organizers are frequently attorneys, particularly for corporations. That name is real but it isn’t the owner. Fall back to the fictitious name registration, which Pennsylvania requires for trading under any name other than the registered one, and which does name the individuals behind it.

How do I find out when a Pennsylvania LLC was formed?
The entity record shows the filing date of the certificate of organization. That date is also the effective formation date unless a delayed effective date was specified on the certificate.
