How to find out who owns a company in Oregon
Oregon requires a real person with a real mailing address on the articles, which puts it ahead of most of the country.
Short answer: Search the Secretary of State’s business registry and read the actual role labels. Oregon requires an individual with direct knowledge, who may be an authorized representative; member and manager disclosures on the articles are optional. A named person does not necessarily own the LLC.
Read the disclosed roles carefully
Oregon’s articles require an individual with direct knowledge of the business, which can be an authorized representative. The member and manager fields are optional. Treat these as distinct roles and check later annual reports and other records before concluding that a person owns the business.
How to search
- Open the Oregon business registry search.
- Search by business name or registry number.
- Open the record for registered agent, principal place of business and associated names.
- Check the most recent annual report for the current version.
Anniversary renewals spread the corrections out
Oregon LLC annual reports are generally due on the formation anniversary. Check the actual filing date and any amendments; an annual reporting requirement does not establish that every address or contact is current.
When the name is a filing service
Where a commercial agent organised the filing, the associated names may all belong to that service. Oregon’s fallback is the assumed business name registration, which names the individuals or entities behind the trading name.
